My daughter saw this bird yesterday. I can assure you it's not a statue! Obviously not very clear as it was some distance away but the size and shape may help distinguish it.

I would say a cormorant.

They hold their wings out like that to dry off after diving.

Looks like a Cormorant to me. Although they are sea birds, you do sometimes see them in urban settings. We see them occasionally in London, wherever there are larger bodies of water.

We used to have cormorants lining up on the electricity wires with the wings out.

Quite errie at times because you couldn't see the wires at certain times of the day and it would seem as though they were hanging in mid air.

Interesting birds. We see them often from the seafront in Sidmouth, catching fish underwater. Easy to recognise too when they are flying in groups, a long line of them almost touching the waves.
