Help with I'd please

StaceyjStaceyj Posts: 62
Hello lovely gardeners. Tidying up my mum's garden and have pulled out a lot of known unwanted plants (refuse to call them weeds!). This one I've left to check first as I don't know what it is. Can anyone help with I'd please?

  • It would be easier to identify with flowers, but it looks like Purple Toadflax, which is a good garden plant and attractive to bees.

Thank you Alan. I agree with you about the flowers. It has buds forming at the top but not ready yet. This is growing next to it which I thought was toadflax. Also showing a pic of the leaf of the plant to id.
  • That is Toadflax. It is an annual which will self seed.

I'm wondering if your plant is a Penstemon.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

It also looks like Goldenrod and there is a weed that looks like that that has little white flowers and fluffy seedheads. I think it will be hard to decide until the flowers appear.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    I'll go with @Busy-Lizzie's guess.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

Thank you all for your help. I'll leave it where it is until it flowers so I can be sure.  :)

It's very likely Horseweed, Erigeron Canadensis. Not something that should be left to flower.

We've had a few of these weeds in our garden the last 2 years.

They grow up to 6ft tall with small purple flowers.

They've spread quickly but are very easy to pull up due to short roots.
