A bit of restriction will do it no harm though - it forces them into flowering sooner.

Water is the main thing.

Here's mine in the ground, was hoping the birds could sit on the wall and eat them, but they have gone taller than the wall.

My sunflowers are annoying, the never face the sun/south, in my north facing garden, they point N/E. What's that all about? Prevailing wind comea from S/W, could it be that?

I did wonder if this was the case, they will be going against the western fence next year then!

I have tried perennial sunflowers in the ground this year, but it's hopeless with so many slugs. They've barely made one foot tall. Lemon Queen never made it back at all.
