Canker

Hi guys,

I have a few cordon fruit trees, 2 apple and 2 pear varieties. it looks like one of the apples and one of the pears have Canker on their main stem.

What's the best course of action. am i better off cutting my losses (pardon the Pun) and pruning the stem down below the canker and hoping a new bud breaks to use as a new vertical leader?

Any advice welcome.

as its a cordon, could I not just prune it below the canker, and hope a new bud sprouts for a new leader?
