Garden help

So we had new turf laid just over 2 weeks ago, watered it everyday, cut it as and when told too and got lots of bold patches! Is this normal?! Help.

Far too early to be cutting it if it's only been in place for a fortnight.
Water, water and more water, each day, unless you get decent, persistent rain for  at least a couple of hours.
Don't cut it for about another four weeks or so, or until it's around 4 inches/10 cm in height.  Then, only take off around an inch, cutting weekly, approximately, and do that each time. Little and often is the key.  :)
It's not established yet [ that will take a month or two if all goes well ] and the root systems are quite shallow, so cutting it that soon pulls the roots out, even if the mower blade is sharp.  :)

  • See the person who laid it for us, told us to cut it! He said it needed cutting as it had set… will the patches re grow or shall we put grass seed on them?

I think they'll be fine @shannon_dillon. If you cut little and often, once it's had a chance to recover, that also helps as it encourages the grass to grow and spread sideways [called tillering]
It depends just how big your bald patches are though. If you have a photo, that will help for advice. If you click on the little icon that looks like hills, above the posting area, that will give you the info.
You can certainly reseed later, but the seed needs to be broadcast over the bare areas, and then some over the rest of the grass too, so that it all blends in. It's difficult to get an exact match to the new turf otherwise. Hopefully , watering and regular light cutting, will sort it though  :)

That'll be Ok if you follow @Fairygirl's advice on watering and restrained mowing.

  • The trouble is when you look closer, there is quite a few gaps! Was just worrying that we had ruined it already! So don’t cut it again for say 4 weeks you think?

Just judge it by the height of the grass - approximately. Doesn't have to be exact.
Once it's another couple of inches [5 cm]  or so. The rate of growth is dependent on the climate, the temperature and the general condition and quality of the soil underneath  :)

  • And you don’t think I should sprinkle some seed down now while it’s short?
