What’s After Peas

YviestevieYviestevie Posts: 7,066
As a first year veg grower I apologise in advance if this is a stupid question. I have grown peas in a large half barrel. They have now finished. Is it too late to start a batch of mangetout In the same place. If not do you ha e any suggestions what to grow next.

I don't know if mangetout would have time to mature if sown now @Yviestevie but it's surely worth a go as long as you add some nutrients and fresh compost or soil to the barrel to make up for what the peas have extracted.

In a normal crop rotation you would plant leafy veg after legumes as they will take advantage of the nitrogen fixed in the soil by the peas or beans.  In a barrel I think you can do what you like as you have more control over the soil quality and watering.
