What ails my forest flame?

A few weeks ago my forest flame withered and went brown.  I don't think its terminal as there is plenty new growth at ground level but what should i do with the top? I was going to prune but Google seems to think its a bad idea . Also what would cause it to this you can see in the background its very healthy twin .

Almost impossible to say what's wrong because there's so much other planting close by. That in itself can be the problem - too much planting all competing, especially for moisture. Sometimes, there's no reason why one shrub is fine, and another struggles a bit too.  :)
It could be as simple as some external damage to a branch lower down, or it could be drought.
They're very hard shrubs to kill. It can certainly be pruned back without any problem regardless of what Google says.
If you can get in beside it and trace the damaged branch/trunk back, it might be helpful. Without doing that, it's not possible to advise   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
