Old garden pond with sub structure under water

Hi I am clearing an old pond which hasn't been touched for about 40 years. There's a pie into it but underwater there's a huge metal structure with a hole in the middle around the centre of the pond. ATM the plastic pipe rubs over the top of this structure but it seems unlikely that it shoukd go down into it through the hole? Has anyone any ideas on this please as we're baffled, total novices!

hi and welcome to the forum.
Hard to imagine from the description, but my intial thoughts are either some sort of fountain, or some sort of "sump pump" to empty it?
    Can you supply a photo?

  • Thanks can't really as it's underwater and too heavy to lift pond was put in in 1920s I think or earlier, thank you so much for your reply!

It might be an idea to try and drain it and then explore and take pics?
