Tree okay few days ago and now all brown

Hi again but have one other issue.  I only really just noticed.  My whitebeam tree was okay a few days ago but today I looked out of window and was shocked.  It looks brown.  I went to see and although there is still a hint of green somewhere the tree looks grey and brown.  The soil is damp so it's. It not lack of water - perhaps its too much?  Would like to do good for the tree.  Thank you all.

I suspect it is the weather we have been having - incredibly hot and dehydrating and sunburn too. The roots simply cannot supply the water fast enough to protect the leaves. Make sure the tree stays well watered, and don't be worried if it drops the leaves, it still has time to grow some more before autumn. There is supposed to be a change in the weather this weekend and a good downpour would do your tree and a lot of other plants a  really good turn. :)

I've just discovered a couple of my recent plantings have done that too so have given them each 30 litres of water and will do the same tomorrow.   Thereafter, 15 litres every couple of days till I see new leaves happily forming and on any day we have heat like this last week.

It sometimes happens to younger trees which haven't had tile to get their roots down deep enough to cope and find water.  They get over it after a couple of years as long as you give deep drinks and not just dribbles which encourage roots to stay up near the surface.

Rain will help but do still give it a big drink every couple of days for the next couple of weeks.

Thank you all for your help. I left the tree to see if it would go into leaf but it did not so we cut it down. It was rotten inside don't know what happened but it seems that the roots were waterlogged. Could be a neighbour flushing water continuously.  I am worried though as I have Thujas in the same area and I would not want them to die also.  Don't know what to do!
