Clematis

HI all, what wrong with my clematis please.

    It's quite difficult to see clearly, but it just looks a bit manky. That's often down to poor air circulation and lack of water, or a combination of both. It looks very near the wall too, which is always drier. Lots of other planting nearby which is all competition for moisture as well. If you clear the area round the base and poke your finger in, you can check the condition/moisture level of the soil. Very easy for them to get dry especially in this hot spell. If that's the case, a good watering will help, and you can add a bit of mulch to help retain it. 

    Or it can be a bit of damage lower down - often from slugs/snails. It looks as if there's a bit of vine weevil or slug damage on the lower flowers too. Very common. 
    If you trace the affected stems back to a lower point, you can snip off the damaged bit at a leaf joint. It'll produce more stems. The flowers higher up look ok. :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
