Cosmos problem

This year's cosmos plants I have grown from seed - last years Gardeners World supply - have grown very thick and bushy but no flowers! only 3 of the 16 plants I potted out and planted have produced flowers as normal on feathery stems. Anyone know why please? it's never happened to me before.

If they're planted in good soil that can delay flowering.
I've had it before when the plants just seem to get bigger and bigger but no flowers.
They do come in abundance eventually.
There may be other reasons too

I find that cosmos seem to flower quite late in the Summer, and possibly the bad weather at the start of the season didn't help.
The bulk of mine are only just starting to flower, l think the heatwave has kickstarted them into action.
