I agree about putting the effort in to dig them up. I had a patch of the common orange one (aka montbretia) and when I dug them out, most of the soil in the area had been 'converted' into hundreds and hundreds of stacked corms, down to about 30cm below the surface. No other plant trying to grow in the same area would have stood a chance. I had to refill the hole left by their removal with a full barrow load of soil from elsewhere in the garden!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
