My hydrangeas have taken a turn for the worse and wandering if there’s anything I can do to help them recover. Is it possible the very hot weather we have had this past week ?
Do you mean the flowers? They're just spent. That's what happens to them. I'm guessing those were bought in flower earlier in the year too, as it's too early for hydrangeas to be at that stage yet. The ground looks very dry too. New shrubs need loads of water to establish - especially through their first summer. Unusual, even for Aberdeen and the north east in general, to have been so dry in the last 6 weeks or so, so some more watering will help. I've never had to water plants as often as I have in the last month
If you mean the leaves, that's also pretty normal. All plants get some dead/dying/damage as time goes on. However, they're incredibly close to some rhododendrons, especially in the last pic. Not really enough room for them all to thrive well. They'll all want to be large shrubs. Too much competition for water, as well as nutrients.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I think that will be the solution. It's easy to underestimate how much they need while establishing, especially planted out at this time of year. The flower heads will tend to drop in hot temps, because the root system isn't developed enough yet to support the heavier top growth. Once it cools down again, you'll see a difference
It's much easier planting in autumn/winter as the climate is better for shrubs and trees, anywhere in the UK. We wouldn't normally have a problem planting, here where I am, in summer, but newly planted specimens have certainly needed a bit more attention this year.

I did wander when I planted them if it would be a problem beside the rhododendrons, I guess I should have asked the question before doing so.
I’ll make a point of giving them more water and see how they look
