    I don't see much of a slope there.  :)
    The laurel will spread anyway, even if you want to keep it at a reasonable depth, so you won't be left with a very wide area anyway after a few years. You could easily just cover and gravel it. If it was mine, I'd tidy it up and get it looking a bit more uniform first though. 
    A simple sleeper edge [difficult to see where the edge of your driveway actually is though? ] would define it and make it more level, which is also safer for cutting the hedge. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • Blue line is the edge of bank, read lines show how steep not a huge amount but enough not to allow lawnmower to cut grass is seeded and yellow area is flat which is how i can keep laurel hedge trimmed.

    The soil on the bank is very dry and full of roots as lot of trees other side some of the popular sort very tall which have now been cut down.

    I think the sleepers with stone or bark might be the way forward and I can set boxed plants on it over summer months?
