Trimming Salvia hot lips

Evening,

I have two Salvia hot lips which have restricted growth on one side owing other plants smothering it. I have now removed the smothering plants so the hot lips has room to grow.

To get some symmetry back to plants, is it possible to trim them back, with the aim of the new growth growing without restriction and therefore regaining its true shape?

    Yes indeed. They respond well to hard pruning. You will lose flowers for a while but you should get some blooming later in the year.  If you go hard, just make sure not to go lower than the lowest extant green shoots. Maybe take out some major branches if growing in the wrong direction. Take out any broken, damaged or weedy growth and you should get a strong plant out of it.
