Pumpkin plants.

Hi. I'm new here and very new to gardening having only recently gained a garden. 

I planted some pumpkin plants back on the 10th June and they sprouted 17th June. I've checked them today and can see the start of some very small flowers. I feel like this is far to early! The plants aren't even vining yet. I have had similar with a pumpkin plant I picked up from a car boot sale. Is this stress related?

    The same happened to some of my pumpkin seedlings (first time trying here too!). Flowers started appearing when I just planted them out. Think they should still be fine but I'm more worried about the young leaves and flowers being munched by slugs. The bigger ones have also been munched but the leaves have outgrown the slugs  :D
