There are a few small fluffy bits of cloud here now, but it doesn't look as if they're going to deliver anything. Stiff breeze like a hairdryer on the high setting. Outside temp sensor is reading 39.4 C (max from earlier this afternoon 39.6 so I hope it's on the way down now). I've had to switch off my work laptop - it was getting very hot after being on all day and I wouldn't want it to pack up . This one's OK having only been on intermittently.

A gentle reminder that much of the world lives with 40oC+ summers are their norm. It's shocking for the UK, but others find ways through. As with -20oC.
I hope all this can bring an appreciation of just how gloriously temperate the UK is (was). How lucky we are to not have risk of hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes of note, years without rain, locust plagues, months of deep snow, killing cold, tsumami risk. We can grow crops, walk about in winter and summer, generally have enough water. A good chunk of the world has no such thing (not to mention a broadly stable political system and economy). I'd love the Uk to hold on to more of a global perspective and not have the media moan as much. Perhaps if we value what we have, we can get better at safe guarding it.
Half my family comes from Jamaica where they have little economic or political or currency stability. Constant risk of hurricanes hitting in the autumn, risk of flooding, little state infrastructure, baking heat through the summer, no favourable global banking relationships. Most of the world is more akin to the position Jamaica than England. Celebrate our coolness, the rain, the buses and the rivers.
There was a localised locust plague in my bathroom this week. It was quickly contained before any damage occurred, and more importantly, before my wife found out they'd escaped.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

@fire 's comments are spot on.
There is no better place to live than England.
From Evil under the Sun and it was related to the weather.
