    I started working at 5. Temperature was 22 c inside and 14 c outside.
6:00, a family of 6 starlings around the biggest birdbath patiently waiting that each of them had its bath.
11:00, a blackbird accesses the tomato bed from the backside and makes himself comfortable on the dark, damp soil.
2:00, the temperature is 29 c inside and 34 outside
I have a wet towel around my neck, I wet carpets and curtains regularly.
I will change the all together 4 birdbaths tonight. Each size has got its own bath.

    I my garden.

Highest temperature here in N Ireland reached 31 degrees here today.  I doubt we would go much higher as the record is 31.3 or similar.

There was a nice breeze today and my patio is in the shade from 2pm so that when I ventured out.   I’m not great in the heat so I feel for those of you who have much higher temperatures.

I worked this morning and nearly melted! I've given myself this afternoon and tomorrow off work and will be operating on a nocturnal clock. I've just slept for 2 hours during this heat and will be doing ironing for a customer over night in the basement!!! Needs must! But now at 8.30pm I'm watering my garden, it's suffered enough!

    Stay safe and cool folks!
And don't forget the wildlife! When out in the sticks at my mechanic friend last week I saw all the streams had dried up so knicked my mates washing up bowl and put some rocks and water in... He has strict orders to top it up regularly!

Forgive my asking , where is there any evidence that "for most it will be an uncomfortable inconvenience."
I know more folk who are loving the good weather than hating it.
The beaches are rammed with folk who seem to be loving it

    28oC yes, 41oC no.

The British public are not generally known for their eminently sensible decision-making, esp when it comes to sun. I pity the staff in A&E depts this week.

We have turned off our gas boiler, it was only heating the water, but the pipes run up inside a kitchen cupboard and across the landing to the airing cupboard   even though the pipes are insulated, it's extra heat we don't need. If we need hot water we will plug in the immersion for an hour.

For those of us who may be follically challenged a wet flannel popped on top of your bonce helps a lot to keep cool.
Not a trend-setter, but it does work :)

It looks like the top temperature record has been beaten already and it's not even midday yet :# It's lovely here though. About 30c but with a nice breeze B)
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
