My wife's pantyhose - holding up more than she ever thought

First of all, I want to thank the lady who suggested using old pantyhose (I should have paid attention to the old part) to hold up tomatoes when you are growing them cordon style. Wow! That has been one of the best suggestions I've ever had the good sense to incorporate in my gardening. I put in some metal posts (those T-shaped studded fence posts) and started my tomatoes on their paths. Soon, I got worried that the metal posts would damage the tomato vines so I bought some PVC pipes and slid them over the metal posts. I tied my tomatoes to the PVC pipe and all was well until I realized the hosiery was slowly sliding down the pipe. So, I then purchased some stainless steel screws and ran them into the PVC pipe roughly every 6 inches (for metric folks, do the math). The material stretches over the screw and holds the tomato in place. The whole thing is just fabulous. If the lady who recommended this is reading these forums, thank you for this wonderful idea.

Had anyone ever used them as a temporary fanbelt? Urban myth or what??

Okay, you gave me an idea. I have a pumpkin that is growing up a wire trellis and I've been trying to figure out how to support the actual fruit. Pantyhose obviously have a place for the butt and so, right now, my pumpkin is resting comfortably in the butt chamber of that pair of pantyhose. We will see what happens.  Thanks for the idea and enjoy your week.

Other types of underwear are more useful for holding up meat and two veg though.

Okay, I think you and B3 are messing with me now. I am not going to make my trellis look like wash day at the Darryl house and I am not going to go shopping for used underwear nor am I going to rifle through my wife's drawer looking for something innocuous and of lesser value. She would notice.

Very wise. I certainly wouldn’t trust my husband to correctly identify what was innocuous or of lesser value!
