Pruning Kansan cherry tree

In March this year I purchased a semi standard Kansan cherry. It had some leaves but did not flower. It has put on significant growth and is now top heavy and the branches need pruning back as they leggy. If I prune / shape now will it flower next spring or does it only flower on this year’s growth which I will be cutting off.
