As this group is so helpful - please could someone identify some more plants?

    Phlox will die back in the winter but they come back in spring, many perennials do that, some do better if you leave the old foliage on until spring as it provides a little winter protection for the less hardy but most can have the old foliage cut back in autumn which gives you space to plant early flowering bulbs. The advantage of that is that you should leave bulb foliage to die back naturally and the bulb foliage gets hidden by the emerging perrenials.
