The soil simply contains enough nutrients for them to grow well @mikeymustard, so they don't require lots of additional 'stuff' I don't feed any of my larger flowered early varieties after an initial spring feed, because although they technically have a 2nd flush, our season is shorter here, so they don't tend to get time to have many further flowers in late summer.
Watering is more important, especially through summer if the soil's a bit lighter, and if the plant is growing in a drier area with less rainfall to keep the soil moist. If there are lots of competitive plants nearby, that adds to the problem.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
