How many chillies on an individual plant.

BigladBiglad Posts: 3,265
One of my de Cayenne plants has approximately 30 fruits starting to develop. Is that too many?

Should I reduce the number to give the best chance of full growth for the others?

    I wouldn't.
You may find some of them drop off by themselves if the plant knows it has too many.
Pick the red ones when they're ripe and it'll carry on producing.

A good plant will produce a remarkable number.  Enjoy  :)

Thanks   that was from 4-5 years ago.

    :D

I'll be very surprised if we get any surplus this year. I'm growing chillies for the first time especially for my eldest, who loves them :)

If we get decent weather and you're feeding them, they go on flowering and producing until late autumn and sometimes beyond

We're a lot further north so I'm being pessimistic on the weather front @Pete.8 ;)

Now I've got fruit, I've started with the tomorite.

Is that ok or would you recommend something else for feeding?

No, that's what I use about once every 7-10 days.
I also give them seaweed extract a couple of times a month to ensure they've got everything they need.
If you have access to rainwater that's much better than tap water unless you're in a soft water area

    Thanks @Pete.8

Our tap water isn't too bad but I've just got a water butt hooked up to the shed to collect rain water for the blueberries. The chillies can join the rainwater rota ;)

I've got some vouchers for the local GC so an investment in seaweed extract is now on the cards.

    Thanks again.
