Garden waste collection

£20 to take away garden rubbish may be cheaper than a skip but it's still a ridiculous amount of money to have to pay when there is effectively already a contract in place with the council to do this.  Our council charges nearly £50 per year for a separate garden waste bin but have been pretty good on collection.

Hi @philippasmith2 I triple checked the company before using their services and they are completely above board. No fly tipping.

    That's reassuring James :)

I've noticed since working from home that people who haven't paid for the garden bin service just leave bags of garden waste out for the general waste collection and it gets collected :-(

That wouldn't happen here.  If it's not in the right bin they don't touch it.  One week I had more cardboard than would fit the bag so I put it on top of the paper/cardboard bag.  They dumped the excess on the pavement and just emptied the bag.

I kind of agree that it shouldn't happen, it seems to make a mockery of all the people who did pay for the service...

I think £20 is ok for the removal of big things like sofas and fridges. We live fairly close to the dump so most people can take soil, gravel, rubble etc themselves.

Just renewed my subscription with the council for another years green waste collection. £46 a year per green bin, collected every fortnight. We have two bins, and the service has revolutionised looking after our 1.2 acre garden. Worth every penny. Have seen ads for private services charging £20 for a single large bag. Very poor value.
