Euphorbia and miscanthus

Two questions!

All my euphorbia are brown and sad looking this year. Should I cut these spent flowers back? Seems to be fresh growth coming through. I think they’re Wulfenii. Maybe I’ve missed the boat!

Also, I trimmed back my miscanthus in spring (by half) but it’s not really bounced back. Worried I’ve killed it all!

Two answers!  Your Euphorbia is fine - flowering is now over so you can cut the flowered stems right back to ground level.  Leave all the other fresh growth and those stems that haven't flowered this year, they will produce next year's flowers.  Remember that the sap can be an irritant so beware.  Typically Miscanthus and other deciduous grasses should be cut to ground level in March to produce new growth.  By only cutting it by half you now have a combination of fresh green growth and last year's dead stems, hence the dishevelled look.  It is probably best to leave it now and cut it to ground level next year so that you still have some growth visible - cutting it to ground level now may be unwise in the heat of summer.  Hope this helps.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
