Lupins looking a mess

My lupin plant is looking a mess. Has mildew but very scruffy in general. Can I cut it back? I have grown them for a few years but can't remember! Thank you.

    Yes cut back to the ground and it will grow back

    definitely.  I cut both my lupins back right to the ground last weekend and there is already new growth coming through.
