Does beetroot bolt?

If so, is this beetroot that has bolted?
The second photo shows what the rest look like, what's the next step please? Can I store in a cool dry place? Many thanks 🙂

I wouldn't say that has bolted.  Mine too seem to be taking their time - if the weather picks up there is still a chance of a harvest from a Spring sowing.
You can store beetroot but the size you show woudn't make it worthwhile.
  • No it's not bolted - just a young plant. Mine are slow this year too.
Eat it while it fresh - including the leaves - tasty!

Sorry to disagree with Lyn & Chris, but the top photo has bolted - you can see the flowering stem forming.  The 2nd photo shows a normal plant.
@Sunshinefields The usual reason for bolting is a particular plant gets drier at the roots than the others.  The weird weather this year isn't helping either!
I Agree with Chris about eating them young, leaves and all! :)
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    Neither did I - specs needed I think :D
  • Thank you everyone. Curiosity got the better of me when I could see the shoulders of the beetroot poking out of the soil so I pulled one up to have a look how the growing is going! I shall leave the rest in to get a little bigger and eat this one and use the leaves in a salad. Fantastic!
And, totally agree, tell me about the weather! Wish it would make it's mind up...

Mine look exactly the same and was going to post that same as you!  Some of mine have bolted, others are a large gold ball size.  Let us know if the one you picked is woody or fine.  Considering pulling them all up.

Hi, well we peeled it and although tiny it looked like beetroot and tasted alright so we are going to leave the others for maybe another week or two. Got a dry spell coming up thank goodness for the full water butts haha. Good luck
