Friend Or Foe?

Found this fellow on a Dahlia- anyone know what it is? The leaves were stuck together around him. Also a lot of the leaves have that blackening on them, I see it in a different Dahlia of a different variety also.

    I forget it's name but it is certainly a foe and a damn nuisance. I don't usually find them on plants outdoors but I gently unroll the leaf, drop the beast on a hard surface and apply my boot.

    Looks like Leaf-Roller damage to me from the white fluffy residue. See below on how to deal with them. If it is small damage, you can squeeze the leaves or cut out the damaged leaves.
