Maidenhair vine producing sticky sap?

msqingxiaomsqingxiao Posts: 482
Hi all, I've got a maidenhair vine as a houseplant. It seems to die back in the winter but has had some new growth into spring/summer. One problem though is that it seems to be producing quite a bit of sticky sap from its stem, which makes it messy for the surrounding area. Wondering if anyone's got similar experience? And if there's a way to make it less messy please? Thanks!

Bumping my original post in the hope that someone can share some experience? The plant looks pretty but the sticky sap is really annoying and now I think there are spider mites on it too... :s

Sticky substance on plants is usually a sign of aphids. If it was an outdoor plant ants would come along and eat them.
As it’s an indoor plant a touch of bug spray may help.

Thanks Lyn! I've never seen any aphids on it (has always been indoors). Could it also be from the spider mites? Wonder if there's any recipe for home-made spray that I can use? Soap+water?

There are a few sap sucking pests that create a sticky dew on plants, so I'd suggest there is something nasty at work. Different pests have different treatments so I'd look closely to see if I could find the culprit before choosing the treatment.
