Very kind of you, but I can never have a casual stroll through the garden when it is like that, there's nowhere to walk and I'm soggy past the knees. To be fair, I have so many plants the weeds have no choice but to takeover the paths ;)

A non-gardening friend of mine often says, 'Your garden is looking a bit overgrown'. Yes, yes, it is.

If wildflowers do SM, I wonder how many of them have a thread entitled Nuisance Gardeners :D
@Victoria Sponge - agree with Fire - it does look lovely despite the soggy knee problem.

I think many an RHS show stand is trying to get the Victoria Sponge wild look. ;)

Thank you :) The borage on SM probably wonder where I expect them to grow. They are are outside and roughly in the flowerbed not indoors blocking my way upstairs ;)

There are some wonderful photos here but photogenic isn't always enough. You and your garden have to live with each other  all year.
Wildflower corners,/ pathways can sometimes look amaaaazing for a couple of weeks. Then what?
I've decided that I need to be cruel to be kind - to me.
All the plants I mentioned are welcome until they take the michael. Some are swamping plants I've bought. I'm to make an incursion by clearing a space around purchased plants that I have found that I might like given the chance.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

I'm with you on nigella. I sowed a few seeds two years ago in one bed. Now it's everywhere! I'm desperately trying to pull it up before this year's set seeds.

I'm pondering making my front raised bed into a mad self-seeding wildflower patch. This plan is kind of fine until now time in the year and then I always hit a wall. I won't bang on about the ninja slugs, but what rampant wild thing could I grow for August to frosts? Semi shade. Tall is good. Hard as nails.
  • I can't believe no one's mentioned willow herb! Pretty stuff but it springs up everywhere and then it's a nightmare when it seeds. Herb Robert can be a bit of a nuisance but is fortunately easy to pull up. I did plant some a few years ago but it hasn't gotten too out of hand. Lovely little flower but the smell isn't what I'd describe as pleasant. Toad flax seems to seed itself quite freely but I don't mind that. So far.

Two of my favourite flowers when I was a kid were speedwells and scarlet pimpernel, the latter I have just not been able to grow!
