Rowan tree leaf problem
in Plants
I have a young 'Olympic Flame' Rowan in the garden. It's been planted about 3 months ago and seemed very happy growing well lots of new growth. Then about 2 weeks ago noticed problems with some leaves curling. Not sure what's wrong

Make sure it's getting well watered over the next few months until the autumn rain. It's easy to underestimate how much water newly planted trees of any kind need, and the spring was very dry in many areas. If there's other planting nearby, that's also competition for it, so it's even more important to be vigilant. The root system isn't yet developed to cope with the new growth being produced, but it'll gradually balance itself out over the next few months, assuming it has decent soil to grow in and enough moisture.
I'm assuming it's in the ground?

The ground isn't fantastic quite clay based, but the label on the tree when we bought it and the garden centre advise said this variety would tolerate clay and wind, which is good as our garden is east facing and quite breezy
Rowans don't like to be short of water, so as long as it's well watered for the next few months it'll be fine.
Aphids may cause a bit of damage, but as long as the tree is healthy and establishing, they won't do any lasting damage. You can wipe them off with your hand, or give them a jet of water from a hose.
If you get birds coming in, they'll soon find aphids in future years - especially blue tits. They especially clear them up in spring when they have young to feed. It can sometimes be worth hanging a small feeder in the tree to attract them in too.
