Scabious - plenty of buds but no petals

I bought some large scabious plug plants from SR which have grown beautifully both in the front and the back gardens. 

There are plenty of buds which seems to be opening, but not petals! I’ve been checking them daily so don’t think I’ve simply missed them. 

Does anyone have any ideas on why this might be?

    Are they getting ready to spread petals. Mine just suddenly appeared and are looking great this year.

    They're getting ready.  Give them time.  A few sunny days and they'll come.
