DEADHEADING ROSES

Good Morning Everyone

What is the best way to dead head roses including standard roses? Is it sufficient to just take the flower head off or is there more to it?

Thanks

I take off the flower head including the stalk behind it and going back to the next leaf axil.  It looks neater and reduces the possibilities for die-back as there is no stub of stem left.

What Obelixx says also encourages that cane to rebloom - if you trace the stem down to the next set down of 5 leaves you will see a tiny nubble between the leaves and the stem (the aforementioned leaf axil). That’s your next nascent bloom. Assuming it’s a repeat flowering rose.
