Dead grass popping up through block paving

Hi ,any day now I will be moving into a property ,which has been empty for a while ,hence the very unsightly block paving .there is ,what looks like tall dead grass ,I have already bought a tool to hopefully lift it ,but is there any other way of removing this ,

It depends on what the 'grass' is, and how well embedded it is. Trying to get out well rooted planting from between paving of any kind can be a thankless task. A targeted weedkiller is often better to get a head start on it.
A photo of the area would help though.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Do you think that maybe someone sprayed weedkiller before you moved in?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Yes a picture please, grass  left in paving does eventually die. It IS a thankless task
.we do have a fancy "weeder" from the upmarket supermarket! Have tried weedkillers, bought himself an electric flame thrower, which is useless. He hand weeds, often actually resorts to removing some pavers. Not all the weeds come up from underneath the paving, some seeds are dropped from the top. We have weeds seeding from both neighbours. My old man recently made a tall bird feeder, and a vast amount of what looks like very thick stem grass has come up in-between in paving over quite a big area,it was never there before.

We have block paving , I would recommend hand weeding and saving hard to replace it.
We live in a rented house and it’s the bane of my life.
