I spent a week furiously hand pollinating the sweet corn but have been rewarded by plenty of large ripe cobs, infinitely tastier than any I’ve bought. Thanks for the advice earlier
I'm delighted with my first effort growing corn too. Just dug up the plants this evening after a great few weeks eating fresh corn for lunch. I think it could have lasted a bit longer but the weather has been very cool recently and the remaining cobs were tiny.
I gave up trying to grow sweetcorn some years ago as the mice and pigeons ( i think) ate the cobs long before they had a chance to develop, but this year four different plot holders have planted some, so far they have not been attacked!
