Planting Carex Evergold

Zahid_63cZahid_63c Posts: 121
I'm planning to plant Carex Evergold Grass between my Buxus and Bay tree(2m gap) , I have been advised to plant in zigzag,I wanted confirm if this is the right way of doing it,one to front and one to back, should it be right towards front or in between front and middle of garden bed
Garden bed is 55/60cm wide
all advice and suggestions appreciated

I'd say that's too many for the space. They become quite a good size once established - around 18 inches or more in width/spread. 3 or 4 would fill that space in a couple of years.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

OK I'm planning to buy the small ones
Is the way I'm planting correct?
Do I do towards front or in between front and middle for the zigzag?

    True...I was advices 3 per metre...🤔

3 in a square metre would probably be ok for a while, because they'll compete for water etc, and therefore won't get so big, but if they're happy and grow well,  they are also just as likely to become very congested and will need removing and dividing in future.
However, it's up to you how you want to do it. How you arrange them won't really matter in terms of doing a zig zag scheme  :)

a 2 mt length doesn't give you an awful lot of room for a true zig zag once the plants become established unless you want a continuous zig zig - even then, given the fact that the plants will produce quite a reasonable clump once established, I wouldn't think you needed more than 3 or 4 plants.  If you purchase young plants, it may look a little sparse for the first year or 2 but unless you want to be digging out and dividing not too far in the future, it may pay just to reduce the number advised and give them time.

I think I should just get 3 then
    Will save me money too!
So is the suggestions to scrap the zigzag and just plant 3 in a row in middle as they will grow and spread regardless
I do want a neat and tidy look

That is up to you - if you want a bit of a "wavy" look, work out the spacing and plant accordingly - broken up or continuous will be your choice.  I did a similar thing with Festuca ( blue grass ) and Imperata Red Baron - worked well but I had more room than you have.
If you want neat and tidy then perhaps a straight line but again spaced to allow the growth for a few years.
