Shallot crop

Shallots are a total fail..  :# planted autum sets. Did well initially, good leaf growth and looked healthy. Then about 10 weeks ago they started to yellow and die back. Dug one up and bulbs were small but looked healthy, so kept the faith.... Foliage has now completely died back,  nothing really above the ground. Dug some up today and the bulbs are tiny. Cut a bulb in half, looks fine and roots healthy.  The garlic and onions on same bed are OK.

Any advice on where it all went so badly wrong.

Probably that unusually warm spell we had early this year.  They may have been triggered into 'thinking' it was summer, so the bulbs split and died-back too early.

That’s what gardeners say … every year 😂
