I've found hedgehog poo....

  I'm so happy it doesn't make sense, it's definitely hedgehog poo and it's in my back garden. Some years ago I built a hedgehog hotel but it was too big for the garden so I took it to the allotment it's never had any occupants so now I will have to build a smaller one for the garden. Really really happy.

    I know how you’re feeling. I discovered two nocturnal visitors a couple of months back when I was sitting out in my new garden (recently moved here). 

    I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to see something in a garden.

    They aren’t phased by me sitting out while they’re here either.

    I will have to keep an eye out and hope that it wasn't just a fleeting visit, I remember years ago that it was always nice to see a hedgehog (alive) there were always plenty of motor accident victims but now it's such a rarity to see one they seem more precious, they say that you don't miss something until it's gone don't they.

    They do say that and it’s so true .We had one living in an old terracotta pot in our ‘ wild area’ until 2 weeks ago when we found him wandering round in the sun one morning at coffee time. He looked disorientated so we brought him to the local wildlife hospital. When I rang them for a progress report …. he had died of dehydration. Don’t know why , he had his pond and had been here on and off for 2 years. So sad ,🙁I really miss him.

    That’s sad, @bcpathome. I do hope you will have more visiting soon, though. We are very lucky to have some visiting our and our neighbours gardens. There are at least two. It feels so special to have them. They can move about really quickly, too.

    I meant to add as well, that last year, when they were in the garden, the local cat was in, too, but each ignored the other. The hedgehogs didn’t seem bothered that the cat was there and the cat didn’t seem bothered that they were there.

    No .Cats don’t seem to ever bother hedgehogs I guess once they’ve tried to sniff one ,and got a sharp surprise,they learn a lesson .No sign of any more hedgehogs in our garden ,did see a lizard today but it’s gone PDQ so the wild area is bereft of life.

    Last night sat in conservatory,  hoggie was in the feeding station.  Then he came out for a drink, it was at that point I noticed the ginger cat hiding behind the central pot. It proceeded to stalk the hog and as the hog ran away, it ran too. Then it saw me and ran off in the opposite direction. I don't know if it would have attacked it, but this cat has had a go at my blackbird in just the same way, and only because I was there did it not kill the bird.
