Something wrong with rose

I planted a bare root rose for first time last Nov
At first I was delighted with the roses that came out but now it looks like something is eating or attacking it.  Thete is nothing visible on leaves or buds
Have sent a pic of the rose when it first bloomed and then of the damaged looking buds
Hope someone can help

Earwigs sometimes munch my rose buds and only come out at night, but they usually take a chunk out the side of the bud so I don’t think it’s that. Rain and very damp weather generally can cause buds of some roses to ball and not open. However, the buds, along with the skinny new leaves suggest it may be suffering the opposite -  drought. Have you been watering it really deeply and regularly? As in, at least a large watering can, twice a week, poured slowly at the base so it soaks right down to the new roots? It’s hard to overwater a rose (unless you have very boggy, poorly-drained soil) and a new one will not have the resilience and deep water-seeking roots of a more established plant.

Thanks for your reply Nollie.  I have been watering every day that it does not rain and the soil is really good so I do not think it is dry. I have got a basic rose bug spray shall I just use that?  I did not use immediately in case I just things worse

If it’s not a water/weather situation, not sure what else to suggest. Except I still say two deep waterings a week is better than less water every day, so try giving it two watering cans full and see if that makes any difference? I don’t spray, so sorry can’t advise on that, but most would say don’t spray indiscriminately unless you know what you are targeting. It might just sort itself out, with luck!

Ok thanks,  I will do that and keep an eye on it to see how it goes
