Prunus mume 'Beni-Chidori' in distress.... :(

We planted this beautiful little tree last year and enjoyed a glorious display of blossom this spring. However,...as soon as the first leaves began to open, we noticed a problem...
The leaves are puckered and curling and those that manage to grow fully are discoloured.
I've been looking at images of peach leaf curl and I'm stumped...since this seems to result in pronounced red lesions on the leaves, whereas none are visible on my tree (at least to my untrained eye). Can anyone fathom what's going on and offer advice on how we can save it?
The nursery from which it was bought has suggested the bizarre spring weather and/or insufficient watering as the cause, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the case.

I've tried to take as many photos to fully illustrate the problem as possible...have also included a shot of a lovely yellow dragonfly resting on a branch as an added incentive  :)

    I'd agree with the nursery.
It's easy to underestimate how much water newly planted trees need in their first year, and that's doubled or trebled if they're in pots.
The damage certainly looks like that of  frost on newly emerging foliage, or a mix of that, and sun/wind.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks Fairygirl... I also have an inkling that it has way too much competition from other plants. I think I need to give it more space. Come spring, I'll clear everything else out to give it a better chance.
  • I have exactly the same problem. And I guess it is this: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kräuselkrankheit
    (sorry, German…)
  • Hi Tanje
    Yes!
It's most definitely peach leaf curl.
The problem has persisted since my original post....in fact, it's really bad this year ☹
Thank you for the link...I never heard of horsetail broth before as a possible remedy...guess I need to try this.
