Dwarf Red Acer

endakellyendakelly Posts: 15
Hi,
I want to buy a dwarf red acer and need a recommendation, as the amount of varieties is a little overwhelming.

Ideally, I would like something upright (a mini tree as opposed to a bush), approx 2-3m at maturity. I love the whispy fine leaves, if possible, but all are beautiful so that isn't a must.

What variety, might work best.

Thanks.

Unless you have perfect conditions for growing them, I'd stick with one of the popular, easy ones like Acer palmatum Bloodgood.
However, when you're describing foliage as wispy and fine, that would be a dissectum, so something like A. dissectum Garnet would suit well.
Bloodgood will get quite big eventually, but they're all pretty slow growing, and can be pruned too. If you're growing in a container, it won't grow as quickly anyway.
Both are readily available from good suppliers.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

How about Beni Maiko? Intense red colour in spring, but does turn green in summer
