It's one of the common rushes and needs pulled out before it seeds everywhere.
It'll have seeded in from outside somewhere.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you for your response. That is really annoying as these were grown inside, in seed compost, until the I potted them up into the pot shown outside.

Did they look like that (or similar) when you potted them up?
Did the seed come from China?
  • Yes they were like this; only recently potted them up into this pot. The seeds were from someone in UK. The seeds were hard black and very angular.

Do you mean you potted up seedlings, or did you sow them direct into that pot?

  • I transferred the seedlings; very much as they are now from the original seed compost. I planted one seed in the middle of small pots and the plants grew directly above the seed so I assumed the plant came from the seed ...

This link has info about growing daylilies from seed:
and has a photo of seedlings at the top, just in case you notice any coming up after you remove the rush.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

I think you've been sold duff seeds. Are they all like that, or have some not grown yet?

  • I think you are correct - duff seeds. I was growing these from March time and I had only two propagated into this reedy looking thing :( Thank you for your help.
