Patty's Plum Poppy

alfharris8alfharris8 Posts: 513
Could anyone provide either a photo or a good description of Papaver Patty's Plum that you grow yourselves please?
I've yet to see it in flower in a garden centre and the photos online vary greatly.
Also any descriptions of what you grow alongside it would be lovely.
Thanks as always.

I grew it several years ago having bought it from a small, reputable local nursery.
I have to say that l was somewhat disappointed in the colour, it was more of a muddy brown than the plum colour that l was expecting, and after a couple of years l took it out.
I do remember reading somewhere that due to the demand for it, plants were labelled as Patty's Plum but were inferior types. I don't think that's what happened to me, l just think it was overhyped.
There are superior plum coloured poppies available these days l think.

I have also thought it seemed muddy looking in some photos and lovely in others.
    Thanks for replying.

I have it growing in my front garden. The colour is lovely when the buds first open but very quickly fade to a dull buff colour and I’m not sure I would buy it again.

They look nice is your photo though and very healthy.
    Thanks for the honest opinion.

I had one for a few years. The colour was a novelty, not sure if I actually loved it or not, but when it suddenly keeled over, I didn't replace it.

Harlem might be better, haven't grown it yet though.
