Plants to grow in.a soggy no draining planter

I have a small planter which has become water logged.  It has no draining holes so the plants currently in it aren't well.  What plants could I put in instead.

Could you empty it and make some holes? if it's a plastic container, an electric drill with a large bit will do it. Otherwise all I can think of is to make a mini-pond with an aquatic plant, although I think a lot of them would need a large-ish container.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • Hi that's a good idea. It's one of those fibre pots so probably could drill a hole or two.  Thanks

Put an X of sticking plaster over the place where you want to drill the hole. It should stop the drill slipping
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Thanks B3 for that good tip

..otherwise you can use it as an outer and put draining smaller pots inside it.

Bog plants still need drainage. It would be a pond plant of some kind the OP would need, but if it's a very small planter, that probably wouldn't be ideal as it would heat up too much.
Drilling some holes is the sensible solution, and easy to do   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks all..Great suggestions.

Here’s what I did, no drainage. Although I do have a cheap £15 solar pump recirculating the water.

Although I freely admit it might not be for everyone, I had a lot of fun making it.

hoping most of these will be UK hardy..guess we’ll see :)
