For future reference and if you are still looking for an answer, if you have a smartphone there are some great AI based apps that can identify plants for you.

I use plantnet from the google play app store (if you are an iphone user there will doubtless be apps for those too) and it seems to work pretty well. You just take a picture with the app and then tell it to check the leaf or the flower.

Usually comes back with some great suggestions, though be aware these are ordered by how likely it thinks its answers are correct. For this reason it helps to do it multiple times from different angles, and if you have a flower on it, to check that too.

I took a picture of your shot above with the app and it agreed with Pete! Nicotiana Sylvestris.

Thanks folks, it’s obviously a rogue seedling as I’ve only planted certain salad, fruit and veg with pansies and lobelia so not sure.

    think I might get rid....

    thank you for responding

If it is Nicotiana sylvestris (are the leaves kind of sticky?) , I had one appear from nowhere in my garden a few years ago. None in any near neighbour's gardens, no idea where it came from. Lovely, statuesque plant.

  • The seeds are very fine/ dust like. Plant it in the border, give it some support if not surrounded by supporters, watch for slugs and snails and look forward to enjoying a spectacular display,

The scent from the flowers in the evening is amazing if you have the space for it.
As mentioned above, the leaves do feel a bit sticky.
I've never needed to stake one they're very sturdy plants
