Honeysuckle leaves

Hello everyone,
I‘ve attached a photo of our honeysuckle, which seems to be quite in a bad shape... As you see the leaves have turned yellowish with massive black spots; some of them have also started to fall, although the plant is now starting to produce quite a lot of flowers.
The plant was already in the garden when we moved here last year, so we don’t know how old it is.
I’ve already tried to prune the most damaged branches, but the problem is has now spread everywhere.
Do you think we should just give up, cut off the whole plant and get a new one?
Also, do you reckon that otherwise this disease (whatever it is) might spread to the rest of the garden? That’s what worries me most!

Thank you so much for you help, this podcast has been extremely useful for me so far

Are you sure it is a honeysuckle? Looks more like a indoor plant Hoya???
  • I am quite sure it is honeysuckle, especially now that I’ve seen the flower buds.
Thank you for the suggestions! I will try and work a bit on good mulching and watering and see if it gets any better :-)

The leaves do appear to be "thicker" than the usual honeysuckle and the twining habit is similar to the larger Hoyas.  Must be my eyesight but can't see the flower buds on the photo.
I suspect @Silver surfer may have the answer - at least to confirm your ID :)
  • Hi,
you’re right, no flowers visible in the first photo. Here they are :-)
    Thanks,

    Irene

Yes - no doubt - the flowers make it obvious :D
