Hi, I'm quite new to gardening, these have been going for the past 11 weeks and I've read they usually take 12-16 weeks, although these look to be quite far behind. Anyone got any idea how much longer they might need?
Always go for the top end of the time to pick I find with carrots, it also depends on the variety . My Nantes are a bit behind my Speedo varieties, both of which were planted in March, but were under cover until late May because of the bad weather.
I pulled this just 10 days after that picture so I think they are doing okay, as I sowed mine in mid April. I think maybe another 15-20 days? They have all seemed to thicken substantially since then from the top. Regarding how thickly they were sown, I did them in pots, where people do often overcrowd them, though my pots were at least 40cm deep and they were spaced around 4-5cm apart.
The spacing sounds fine @billyk098R4I3xs6Z , unless you are growing for show they don't need huge amounts of room. Plus as you pull the gaps get bigger giving them more room to increase in size. I tend to look at the tops, if they are out of the soil and look big enough I pull, if they are still below the surface I gently brush some away to see how they are doing.
