It looks like a sucker from a cherry tree root - or maybe a seedling from a pip dropped by a bird. If it's a sucker, you'll find the root it comes from, not far down under the surface. Try to pull the sucker off the root. If you just snip it off, it'll grow again!
A seedling's a lot easier to remove, of course.
