Greenhouse convertion

Hello,
I have been given a 6x8 aluminium greenhouse.
Is it possible to alter the house to a brick wall. Cut away the bottom panes to put up on a dwarf wall, making it a little taller too.
Thanks

I’ve got one built up on a couple of rows of breeze blocks.

  • Not quite sure what you are asking but if you want to raise the frame to get more head height then putting the entire frame on a low wall is very sensible, the front of mine is on two blocks. If you mean more than that then I expect it would be very difficult to cut the frame down and re drill all the bolt holes and maybe cut the class down without ruining it, not worth the bother.

The question on the wall I guess you could butt the gable end to a wall with some flashing tape to deal the gap.

Putting it on a dwarf wall is a good idea but you can't easily go much higher than a couple of blocks high. The main problem will be the need for steps up into the greenhouse. Modifying the door to give a level entry would be difficult as you would need to cut out the lower edge of the frame below the door which would compromise structural integrity.

As Steephill says, you need to make a step both sides of the door inside and out,  but not a problem,  breeze blocks are a brilliant invention.🙂

  • Cool thanks for your replies.
My idea was to get rid of the bottom row of glass panels and replace with the wall all around, attaching the rest of the frame to the top of the low wall of bricks. So alu frame to dwarf wall GH.

Or perhaps a better plan would be to build a wall around the bottom half of the untouched GH? Just for aesthetics. My garden is not too big and I was liking the idea of having hiding space at the bottom for pots, bags, spiders etc!!

    Thanks  :)

Don't know if this is of any use, the wall shown may be too high but it may give you some ideas  :)
