    4th for Hydrangea but it really needs to go in the ground, these are lovely big plants that need to spread their roots. 
    They should almost  be in flower now, at least with buds on them.
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    In warmer areas they might be budding up and nearly flowering, but many are late because of the colder spring and new growth being affected. Mine are nowhere near producing buds.  
    In pots they'll struggle to do well unless they have the right care, so flowering can be affected too, especially in such a small pot. 

    I wonder though - did your friend buy it last year around Easter, already in flower? It's a common scenario. They're forced into flower early for the Easter/spring market, and then people wonder the following year why they haven't flowered by June. They normally flower in summer - mostly in later summer  :)

    Just to say, the two I have are in pots, and do well. I make sure that they are well watered, as they are thirsty plants, and use ericaceous compost, topping this up as required. The pots are bigger than the one in the photo, though, to allow room for the roots. The youngest of my two plants needed some TLC last year as it was starting to get a lot of yellowing on the leaves and flowering very poorly, so I took it out of it's pot, put it into a slightly larger one, applied fresh ericaceous compost and a little feed and it has seemed much happier since I did that. They they are just coming into open flower now.
